FLORIST HACK: How To Transport Your Wedding Flowers
You’ve got all the flowers arranged, you’re so proud of your DIY florist skills, and the wedding bouquets look GORGEOUS…. now it’s time to get them to your venue, and make sure they arrive just as lovely as you sent them! We’ve put together a quick “how to” to give you some guidance on how best to get them safely to their destination (transport by bicycle not recommended)
- Put Them In A Box
- To transport your arrangements, it’s much easier if they are in a container, that way you can nestle your packing material around them. Laundry baskets work well, or keep the box your flowers came in.
- A neat hack is to use the box your flowers came in… and using an exacto knife, cut an opening the right size to fit your vase. Put the arrangement in the opening, making sure the hole isn’t too big, so that the vase is kept snugly in the box.
- Nestle Them Tight
- I know we tell you that flowers hate crowding…but you get to break this rule just once! If your vases are loose in your car, they are prone to tipping, breaking your blooms, and sloshing water all over the car. You can use old towels, sandbags, clothing, weights, bubble wrap, or newspaper to pack around the vases, to make sure they have no wiggle room to tip over.
- Drive Slow and Steady
- It goes without saying, but this isn’t the time to test out warp speed! Give yourself plenty of time to get to the venue, so you’re not tempted to go over the speed limit.
- Buckle Up!
- If you have large arrangements or buckets of loose flowers, put them on your seat and put the seatbelt securely around them.
- Keep Them Hydrated
- This might be a simple tip to start with, but we gotta say it… cut flowers need water! If you’re just travelling 5 minutes up the road, I wouldn’t worry about it, but for any longer length of time, make sure those bouquets have a water source. Also think about how long they’ll be at the venue before someone comes to grab them. The last thing you want is to leave your bridal bouquet for 2 hours with no water in hot sun and have it sadly wilt.
- I would recommend just having a small amount of water in the vases (around an inch or so of water) just in case you hit road construction or something… and your water jostles. For centerpieces, you can top them up once you get to your wedding location
- Be Organized
- Make up a checklist of what you’ve made, so nothing is inadvertently forgotten, check the fridge for any boutonnieres and corsages.
