Eleanor & Mitchell

Calgary Alberta

Location/venue:

Shawnessy Barn, Calgary

Why they decided to DIY:

I decided to DYI because I love flowers and wanted to be creative with the flowers and colours used. Picking and planning the flowers was one of the most fun parts of wedding planning.  I also wanted a lot of flowers at the wedding at DYIing allowed us to do that within our budget.

Any tips for couples who choose to DIY:

Plan your prep in advance.  With a large order we needed many buckets and lots of space to prep all of the flowers in advance. By getting the prep done a few days before they arrive (we unpacked Wednesday)  and then did the arranging the day before the wedding, we were able to fully relax on wedding day.  I also practiced making boutonnieres a few weeks before the wedding with flowers form the grocery store which was a big help!

Favourite part of your day:

The favourite part of the wedding was during the reception when we got to hear speech’s and dance with all our family and friends.  We moved all of the ceremony arrangements around the sweetheart table which resulted in so many flowers around us!

Anything else noteworthy?

Setting up the flowers the day before with my family and friends was a blast! My mother-in-law had taken a floral design class and lead the larger arrangements.
