Sofie and Walter

Vancouver Island

WSWEDDING

Sofie and Walter’s wedding was a beautiful testament to their creativity and love for each other.💍✨ The couple decided to DIY their own wedding flowers, selecting the perfect blend of peach, pink, and white blooms. These soft, romantic colors complemented the breathtaking outdoor venue on Vancouver Island, creating an atmosphere that felt both intimate and magical. Their personalized touch made the day even more special, and it was a stunning reflection of their personalities. Congratulations, Sofie and Walter on such a beautiful day!💕

Their Story:

The wedding was in Merville, BC. Marriage was always a goal for us, even when we started dating at 16. When we got engaged, we were 21 & 22 and enrolled in full time schooling. There were some big financial barriers for us getting married, but it felt like the best next step in our relationship. Because of that, we wanted to save money where possible, but without sacrificing our vision for the day. Flowers are something that have always been something I love, so I knew I wanted to get some good quality flowers and arrange them nicely, but I simply couldn’t afford to pay a florist. DIY’ing my own flowers seemed like a big task and lots of people warned me that it would be too much of a hassle so close to the wedding day. However, I am so glad that I did because it was one of the most memorable parts of the week before my wedding. My bridesmaids and some other women in my family came over to the barn and we spent a couple hours arranging flowers. It was such a fun experience and we all had such a good time. It was like doing crafts with a bunch of girls!

Tips for Other DIY Brides:

Some tips that I have for other brides who want to DIY their flowers is to have a designated day before the wedding to do flowers with your bridesmaids and other women in your family. I also recommend reaching out to neighbours to see if they have some flowers that you can use for free. Most people are usually pretty giving and will be delighted for you to use their things at their wedding. Another tip that I have is to buy floral tape off of Amazon and then wrap ribbon around the bouquet on top of the floral tape. For the buckets, we just used any that were around the house. We mostly used galvanized buckets.
Here is the process that we did for the bouquets for a Saturday wedding.
Wednesday: receive flowers at home and put them into buckets of water. Store in a cool place (we did the barn) overnight.
Thursday: Assemble bouquets Thursday morning (preferably indoors) with family and bridesmaids. Keep them in buckets in a cool place.
Friday: Let them rest.
Saturday: Wedding day! Take them out at the last second.
Another tip that I have (not very floral related) is to definitely do your photos before the ceremony! Then you can have lots of time to visit during cocktail hour.
