Rachel & Micah’s Okanagan Wedding

Rachel and Micah’s wedding was a celebration full of heart, creativity, and personal touches — set in the stunning Okanagan region of British Columbia. Their special day took place at “My Garden Wedding” in Oyama, a picturesque venue surrounded by lush greenery and mountain views (now closed down).
Even though the venue is no longer operating, the beauty and creativity behind Rachel and Micah’s wedding continue to inspire — especially for couples dreaming of a DIY floral wedding filled with charm, color, and personality.
Why Rachel Decided to DIY Her Wedding Flowers
For Rachel, creating her own wedding florals wasn’t just about saving money — it was about expression, creativity, and connection.
“Affordability, to give my creative juices an opportunity to flow, have total creative control over the look and sizing of bridal and bridesmaids bouquets, a special memory with my bridesmaids creating the bouquets the day before.”
Those words perfectly sum up what makes DIY weddings so meaningful. By designing her own bouquets and arrangements, Rachel not only achieved her exact floral vision but also shared an unforgettable bonding experience with her bridesmaids the day before the wedding.
It’s moments like those — laughter, creativity, and hands covered in petals — that make DIY weddings so special. Her florals became a reflection of her personality: warm, natural, and beautifully imperfect in the best way.

Tips from Rachel for Future DIY Brides
Rachel had some wonderful advice for anyone considering DIYing their own wedding flowers — lessons learned from hands-on experience and a few memorable moments under the summer sun!
“Give yourself plenty of time to create the arrangements in a decent sized setup. Pull out your flowers, check them, and get them in water immediately upon arrival (Sarah is amazingly responsive if some florals didn’t travel well and need replacing). If you can help it, maybe don’t have an outdoor wedding on a 36 degree day lol.”
Here are her top takeaways:
-
Start early. Set aside enough time to unpack, prep, and design your florals without rushing.
-
Hydrate your blooms immediately. Flowers need water right away after shipping — it helps them recover and stay vibrant.
-
Ask for help. Sarah from You Floral provides amazing support if any stems arrive in less-than-perfect condition.
-
Mind the weather. Outdoor weddings are beautiful, but heat can be tough on both flowers and people — plan your timing carefully!
Her lighthearted note about the 36°C day says it all, DIYing in summer heat is an adventure in itself!
Planning Inspiration: How Rachel Found Her Style
Like many brides, Rachel turned to Pinterest for inspiration, and quickly realized how easy it is to get lost in the endless scroll of colors and styles.
“Pinterest takes you down a HOLE! A wonderful, inspiring hole, but one that could have you, like me, questioning your theme and color scheme repeatedly. What I found helped was to save everything that inspired or spoke to me, then I went back through and recognized the colors/themes that made up the majority. That’s what I was repeatedly being pulled to, which told me where my heart was for my vision.”
That approach is pure gold for any bride feeling overwhelmed by choices. Instead of second-guessing, Rachel trusted her instincts — narrowing her vision down to what truly spoke to her heart.
Her final color palette reflected exactly that: warm terracotta tones, soft peaches, creamy whites, and earthy greens — the perfect combination for an elegant, nature-inspired Okanagan wedding.
