Jane & Curtis

Maple Grove Guesthouse in Duncan

Jane and Curtis’ wedding at Maple Grove Guesthouse in Duncan was filled with stunning florals, set in a gorgeous real working farm. If you haven’t heard of this wedding venue in the Cowichan Valley, you HAVE to check it out! If you have a vintage inspired country wedding vision, this space will be perfect. It’s 21 aces, with a B&B on site, and horses – so amazing. But anyways, back to the flowers. Jane had a vision for a BIG bold bouquet, and she choose a variety of flowers with lots of greenery to achieve her vision. If you want a similar look, having a couple different types of greenery is key to get this look.  I asked Jane to share her DIY floral tips for future bride, and she said “It’s better to have more flowers than not enough—extra bunches and greens make all the difference!”

Their review

Everything comes down to being prepared! Florals are not something to be underestimated. It’s always better to have more than not enough, so order extra bunches when you can and lots of greens – more than you might think! Scant flowers have such a sad vibe, but the right amount can really add to the sophistication of a space. Also having the right tools on hand to process is very important, getting some proper sheers, the right size buckets, tape, twine, etc. I also definitely underestimated the time and space commitment to DIYing a bit. The initial delivery was a bit overwhelming. I needed to call in some pals to help me process/sort everything and then having space to store it all was a bit tricky. Then the actually creation of the arrangements was a large task that took a few masterminds. I’m very thankful I had some family friends very committed to handling the flowers. Ultimately I think it was very worth it to DIY, but preparation and having the key people in place really made it come together!
